"Moss-haired girls"
"Moss-haired girls" where a fad first popularized by P. T. Barnum at his American Museum in 1865. Based on the trop of "Circassian beauties", women of the Circassian people of the Northern Caucasus. Barnum added the exotic idea of the Afro like hairstyle.
